Cabinet Refacing vs Replacement: Which Saves a Charlotte Kitchen?
Plenty of 1990s Harrisburg and Indian Trail kitchens have square, solid boxes and doors you are tired of looking at. Refacing — new doors, drawer fronts, and a few pull-outs — can look like a new kitchen for less than a full rip-out. Replacement wins when you need a trash pull-out wall, a real pantry, or a different footprint.
Jesminov opens a box on day one. If the carcass is swollen, out of square, or held together by hope, we will not reface it and then argue about doors that will not line up. Paint-grade doors can take a sprayed finish. Thermofoil that is peeling wants replacement, not another coat of optimism.
A practical call, not a sales script
Keep the boxes if the layout works and the interiors are sound. Replace if you are fighting a peninsula that blocks the room or if you want counter-depth refrigeration that the old run cannot hide. Soft-close hardware is not a reason by itself to demo a kitchen.
We 3D both options when it is close. You see the island seating and the appliance wall before you pick a path. Start at kitchen renovation.
Quick answers
Can you spray existing doors?
If they are a paint-grade material and actually flat. Veneer that is already peeling is a no.
Do new doors match old boxes?
We scribe, shim, and sometimes add fillers. That is the job.
How long is a reface vs replace?
Reface is often faster. Replacement follows the 2–3 week kitchen calendar once materials land.
