Bathroom Waterproofing and Tile: Where Cheap Remodels Fail

Updated October 29, 2026 · Jesminov Builders Workshop

Cheap Charlotte bathroom remodels fail behind pretty tile. Redgard on greenboard is not a shower. Jesminov uses a membrane system on curb, niche, bench, and floor before a single tile goes up. Huntersville and Cornelius new-builds still get the same stack — a 2022 house is not magically waterproof.

We flood-test when the assembly allows it. Grout color is picked in the room, not on a dusty chip in a warehouse. Large-format tile on a bad mud bed will lip. We would rather spend a day on the substrate than argue about a lippage you will feel with your foot at 6 a.m.

Where leaks actually start

The valve wall. The niche sill. The corner where a curb meets a door. A window that was never flashed. We photograph those details before tile so you can see the work you are paying for. That is also why we do not “just retile” a leaking shower without opening it.

Process lives on bathroom remodeling.

Quick answers

Do you use Kerdi?

Schluter or an equivalent bonded membrane. We will name the stack in the quote.

Steam showers?

A different spec — vapor, not just water. Tell us at measure.

Can I keep existing tile if it doesn’t leak?

Floors sometimes. Shower walls almost never if we cannot see the substrate.
